The Basic Structure of a Centrifugal Pump

Impeller is the key part of a centrifugal pump , its rotating speed is high and output force is big, blades on the impeller play a major role, and the impeller must through the experiments of static balancing before assembly. It must be smooth of the inside and outside on the impeller in order to reduce the loss by friction of water.

The pump body also called the pump shell, it is the main body of the pump, which supports the centrifugal pump, and connected with the carrier of installing bearing bracket. The function of the pump shaft is connected by coupling and motor, which will transfer the torque of the motor to the impeller, so it is the main part to transfer the mechanical energy.

Bearing is the part to support the pump shaft which is set on the pump shaft, it is divided into rolling bearing and sliding bearing. Rolling bearing uses butter as the lubricant oil, so when add oil, it should be appropriate between two-thirds and three-quarters of the volume, the bearing will be fever if it is over, but too little will be noisy and fever. Sliding bearing uses a transparent oil as the lubricant oil, should go to the oil level line. Too much oil will make oil leakage and loss, drift along the pump shaft, too little will make the bearing overheating and burn out, it is easy to cause an accident. Bearing has the highest temperature 85℃ in the process of water pump running. Usually, the degree is about 60, if it is higher, you should find out the reason and process it in a timely manner.

Sealing ring also called minus leakage ring. If the gap is too big between the impeller and the shell pump, it will cause of high water in the high pressure pump flow to the low pressure area through the gap, which will effect the water yield of pump, reduce its efficiency. If the gap is too small, it will cause friction between the impeller and pump of the centrifugal pump.

The stuffing box mainly consists of filler, seal ring, packing container, packing gland and water bubes. The function of the stuffing box is to close the gap between shell pump and pump shaft, stop the water in the pump flow outside, at the same time stop the air outside entering the pump, so that always keeping the vacuum inside the pump. So the filler should be replaced when it runs about 600 hours.

Axial force balancing device should be equipped. In the operating process of centrifugal pump, the liquid entered the impeller under low pressure and flow outside under high pressure, which makes different pressure of the both sides of the impeller, and produces the axial thrust to point to the entrance in the direction. It will cause the rotor axial channeling, producing friction and vibration, so the axial thrust bearing should be equipped in order to balance the axial force.
